Hi, writers, subscribers, and curious onlookers! I hope you enjoyed the first issue of Page Fright. You’ll receive another issue addressing another frustrating fear experienced by thousands (millions? billions?) of writers in your inbox next Thursday.
I’m also adding other features, like this one, “Friday Frights,” which will run on occasional…you guessed it…Fridays. :) I’ll write just a little to set up a topic for discussion, but the real action will hopefully take place in comments from you.
I’m going to guess that writing really means something to you, and the more something means to you, I believe the more you can find yourself slipping into a “what if” state of mind: What if I wrote beautifully yesterday and today it’s all crap—does that mean I’ll never write well again? What if I just can’t get myself to plant my butt in my chair—how will I ever finish my novel? What if I share my work and people are not moved by it? Or don’t get it? Or, worst of all, don’t like it?
You’re not alone in having these thoughts and questions and fears, believe me.
I’d love if you shared one of your “what if”s in the comments below. If you do, I’ll be sure to explore the fear you describe in a future issue of Page Fright. Also, feel free to reply to other readers’ comments. I really appreciate your willingness to be open with the rest of us!
Thanks to all of you for contributing. I've given this topic tons of thought, but hearing your perspectives has given me some new insights!
What if after a life time of doing something else, I discovered I had a great talent for writing after all :(
